JPG cannot contain transparency, so transparent pixels use a white background. PNG keeps alpha where the browser decodes it. Canvas outputs are new files; metadata, color profiles, HDR range, and source-byte losslessness are not promised.
A short path
Select AVIF images or drop them onto the queue. The page checks the ISO-BMFF container and rejects empty, damaged, pseudo-extension, or animated files.
Your browser's native AVIF decoder draws the static image to a local canvas. JPG quality is applied only to JPG output, and at most two files run at once.
Preview each result, see its output size, download one file, or package successful results into a ZIP created in this tab.
Know the edges
The limits keep browser decoding predictable on laptops and phones. The converter runs at most 2 files at once. Device memory and browser AVIF support still affect unusual or demanding files.
JPG is widely accepted and usually smaller for photographs. PNG is useful for transparent pixels or crisp graphics. JPG output always uses a white background.
This first version converts one static AVIF image per file using the browser decoder. It does not promise metadata, color-profile, HDR, animation, or source-byte losslessness.
Empty files, malformed ISO-BMFF boxes, renamed non-AVIF files, animated AVIF sequences, unsupported browser decoding, and size limits are reported per file.
A real workflow
kids_720p.avifAOMedia's AVIF test collection includes a 1,280 × 720 static sample. The queue reports the name, input size, dimensions, and ready status before conversion.
kids_720p.pngThe output is a new PNG or JPG made from decoded pixels in this browser tab. The exact size depends on content and JPG quality; the original AVIF metadata is not carried over.
No. Validation, native decoding, canvas conversion, previews, and ZIP creation happen in this browser tab. The app has no image upload or remote conversion endpoint.
No. The page checks the AVIF sequence brand and movie track boxes before decoding, then reports that animated AVIF is not supported. It does not silently export one frame as a complete conversion.
The decoder may read high-bit-depth or wide-color input where the browser supports it, but this tool re-encodes canvas pixels to JPG or PNG. HDR metadata, transfer characteristics, ICC profiles, and exact source color are not promised in the output.
JPG has no alpha channel. Before encoding JPG, the converter places a white background under transparent pixels. Choose PNG when you need transparency.
The file may be empty, damaged, animated, over a limit, a renamed non-AVIF file, or unsupported by the browser's native decoder. Other queue items can finish, and the failed item has Retry.
